Why tech expert says it’s got to be Gaggia when it comes to coffee machines
Mark Ellis is one of the UK’s most popular content creators, podcasters and bloggers … and loves a Gaggia coffee.
Mark’s lifelong passion for technology, combined with years of hands-on experience in testing and reviewing products, has earned him a reputation as a trusted authority in the tech world, so much so he now has 235,000 subscribers on YouTube and 56,000 followers on TikTok.
People love his easy-going and chatty style talking about what the average person wants from their tech rather than diving deeply into the spec that would be in danger of becoming too geekish.
Mark, 44, says: “My style is like a chat down the pub talking to a mate. What I say isn’t scripted and I try to make it very relatable. It’s for people who are interested in the latest technology, gadgets and, more lately, cars but don’t want to be deluged with all the spec detail.
“I concentrate on what the average person wants to get out of anything I review – basically what’s in it for the consumer. So if it’s the latest mobile phone is the camera as good as the manufacturer says it is or what makes one iPad superior to another. It’s for people who want to know the important details quickly and visually.”
Or, as his website puts it: “Tech reviews, news, guides and opinion for normal people.”
Before his podcasting career took off Mark worked in marketing, hospitality and sales with experience in writing and videography too which has all been the perfect grounding for what he does now.
He’s based in Leamington, Warwickshire, and does all the filming himself but demand for his content has grown so much he now has a five-strong team in support.
Companies send him the latest tech to test before it’s put on sale to the public so he’s always ahead of the game.
Money comes in from sponsorships, sales commissions and affiliate deals and Mark’s never short of something to talk about, doing at least two YouTube presentations a week along with masses of content on other social media platforms such as Tik Tok and Instagram.
So his life is always very busy which is why he refuels his boundless energy with coffee and his brand partner is Gaggia UK based in Elland, West Yorkshire, which sells the iconic Italian designed and manufactured Gaggia domestic coffee machines throughout the UK.
Mark says: “I love coffee - in fact, I can’t live without it. Gaggia is my machine of choice. We have the Gaggia Accademia in this studio and the Gaggia Magenta Plus at home and they’re fantastic. The Magenta Plus has five one touch drinks settings that are just one tap away and custom settings for strength, temperature and grind size.
“It’s got a pro steam wand which you need, trust me. It’s got dual spouts for filling two drinks at once … it’s got everything, looks lovely and, more importantly, makes lovely coffee too.”
But which drink does he like best from the wide range he can get from his Gaggias, from an espresso and flat white to a latte or a cappuccino.
“For me, it always has to be a cappuccino,” he said.
Mark has recently launched a new car channel called Next Drive

“I love coffee. In fact, I (rather alarmingly) can’t live without it. If that sounds like you, then there is absolutely no way you’d settle for sub-par coffee on a regular basis. That’s why I use Gaggia’s machines and have done for the past two years; I’ve got one in my office and one at home so that I’m never without a good quality cup of the good stuff. If you’re after an automatic or manual machine, there isn’t anywhere else I’d look!” - Mark Ellis
